Biographical information:

Professor Prabath Nanayakkara is the professor of the acute medicine and head of the section general and acute medicine and pharmacotherapy of the department of Internal Medicine the Netherlands. He started his medical education in the University of Colombo in Sri Lanka but had to suspend his study after four years. Thereafter, he continued his medical education in the Netherlands and finished his MD and obtained a PhD from the VU university of Amsterdam. He later completed his Internal medicine training and fellowships in vascular and acute medicine in the VU University Medical Center (VUmc).

He is actively involved in development and promotion of acute medicine in the Netherlands and is currently the president of the section acute medicine of the Netherlands Society of Internal Medicine (NIV). He has published more than 130 peer reviewed articles and his research interests are in the field of acute geriatric care, patient safety-, patient empowerment-,  warning scores in the emergency setting, pre-hospital management of sepsis and. He is a member of numerous professional organizations and is also a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians London and Edinburgh.
