Consultant Geriatrician

I have been a member of the Trainee and Members Committee while a registrar including being Vice Chair for representation in this group. Through this I have also been vice chair for the Scottish Academy Junior Doctors group. I also worked with the college for a year as a Scottish Clinical Leadership Fellow looking at recruitment and retention of trainees. Currently I am in the Recently Appointed Consultants committee and an active member of the college.

I enjoy being involved in the role of the college both locally and internationally. The college can have a really positive effect on policy, training and public health that is not always well recognised.

I am a consultant gastroenterologist in a district general hospital, with a specialist interest in inflammatory bowel disease, service development, cross site collaboration and medical leadership. I am co-lead for quality improvement within medicine, and as a senior trainee I undertook the Scottish Clinical Leadership Fellowship.

I have been involved with the college for several years, having previously been a member of the Trainee and Members Committee. Being a member of the RAC has allowed me to continue to be involved in the important work it does, representing members, providing and supporting education at all levels of the profession, and working with other groups (locally, nationally and internationally) to benefit members.

Kidney Consultant

I am a kidney consultant with an interest in transplantation, vasculitis, and training and education. I also have experience in epidemiology and am enjoying gaining experience in clinical trials now as a consultant.

I have learnt a lot from colleagues working in other areas and specialties in my career to date, including during my time on the RCPE Trainee and Members Committee. Working collaboratively with others has helped me keep an open mind to innovative ideas and new ways of doing things to improve patient care. Being on the RAC allows me to continue to be involved in the work of the College and support education, including for new consultants.
