The Laws of the College were amended on 30 June 2023 to remove the requirement for Honorary Fellows to be elected at an Extraordinary Meeting of the College. Honorary Fellowship (Hon FRCP Edin) may be conferred on individuals (both medically qualified and non-medically qualified) at the discretion of Council, and they are automatically exempt from payment of the Fellowship Fee and annual subscription. Generally, Honorary Fellows will have made an exceptional contribution to the practice of medicine. Nominations will be considered first of all by the Fellowship Committee and then by Council. Only Fellows who are serving members of Council are eligible to nominate candidates for election to Honorary Fellowship of the College.
