Online, part-time courses for health professionals

The MSc Internal Medicine and MSc Critical Care are part-time, online learning courses delivered by the University of Edinburgh, in partnership with the College. These programme are aimed at doctors, nurses, paramedics and allied health professionals, and enables you to study 100% online at times that suit you. Our Scholarships can provide support to help talented individuals undertake either MSc course.

MSc Internal Medicine

The MSc Internal Medicine is an online learning course, completed part-time over three years. It is delivered by the University of Edinburgh, in partnership with the College. MSc Internal Medicine details

About the programme
  • Clinical curriculum complements the syllabus for MRCP (UK)
  • Modules to advance patient management, to give practical experience in literature review, and preparation for future audit, research and publication
Who is it for
  • Primarily for doctors early in their careers
  • Current students from 35 countries: a global community of like-minded individuals
How is it delivered?
  • Delivered entirely online
  • Self-directed learning with tutor support and guidance
  • Elective modules available in 2nd year
  • In-depth study in an area of medicine in your 3rd year
  • Typical study time of 8-12 hours each week
Exit qualifications
  • After one successful year: Certificate in Internal Medicine
  • After two successful years: Diploma in Internal Medicine
  • After three successful years: MSc Internal Medicine

MSc Critical Care

The MSc Critical Care is an online learning course, completed part-time over three years. It is delivered by the University of Edinburgh, in partnership with the College.

About the programme

Students will learn the essentials of the clinical management of critically unwell adults, whilst developing expertise in accessing, interpreting, and integrating the findings of clinical research into clinical care 

Who is it for?

Doctors, nurses, and allied health professionals seeking to develop as independent practitioners and future leaders of healthcare change

How is it delivered?
  • Delivered entirely online
  • A blend of online learning methods such as; recorded video lectures, discussion forums and live question and answer sessions
  • Elective modules are available in 2nd and 3rd year (if fully taught option).
  • Dissertation or fully taught option in 3rd Year (conduct a small critical care-related project and select up to four elective options from a range of critical care-related courses from across the University of Edinburgh.)
Exit qualifications
  • After one successful year: Certificate in Critical Care
  • After two successful years: Diploma in Critical Care
  • After three successful years: MSc in Critical Care
  • Individual courses are also available to study as a Postgraduate Professional Development (PPD) option. Successful completion of a PPD course allows you to gain academic credit which can be transferred towards a Postgraduate Certificate, Diploma, or Masters.
