The College provides plenty of opportunities for doctors to continue their professional development (CPD). A selection of CPD sources the College offers and how to get these CPD points are highlighted below.
Educational events
Symposia (5-11 CPD credits)
Throughout the year the College organises a broad range of CPD-approved clinical and non-clinical symposia and meetings to complement the medical specialties and support management and training.
Evening Medical Updates (EMUs) (2 CPD credits)
Our Evening Medical Update programme covers specialities, presentations and conditions included within the Internal Medicine Training (IMT) curriculum. There are 10 EMUs across each academic year, which are free to RCPE members and Fellows. The programme is also streamed live to participating hospitals and practices across the UK and overseas as part of the College's efforts to support easy access to continuing medical education. UK Medical Updates (UKMUs) (2 CPD credits)
Our UK medical Update programme is led by our Regional Advisers, Fellows and Members, and these short meetings showcase topical updates and ranging perspectives from regions across the UK
International Updates (IMUs) (2 CPD credits)
Our International Update programme is led by our Overseass Regional Advisers, Fellows and Members, and these short meetings focus on clinical updates from different regions across the world.
Courses (6-27 CPD credits)
The College hosts and organises a number of courses that cover the medical specialties and professional support and development. These include:
- The RCPE Course in Acute and General Internal Medicine
- Oncology
- Gastroenterology & Hepatology
- Medicine of the Older Adult (Geriatrics)
- Non-Invasive Ventilation (NIV)/Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (OSA)

Distance learning (Education Portal)
The Education Portal offers access to recorded lectures from our events and e-learning modules/cases which allow Fellows and Members to claim CPD under the personal credits category.
MRCP(UK) PACES examiner
Examining is an excellent way of obtaining good general medical CPD, provides excellent networking opportunities (especially for relatively new consultants). Find out more information on the MRCP website.
