Statement on the war in Ukraine
The College believes that the war in Ukraine is devastating, inhumane and will lead to a major humanitarian crisis. While we are a neutral and apolitical charity, we condemn the aggression towards Ukraine. Our thoughts are with all those affected by the war, particularly the Ukrainian people - including those living in the UK - at this terrible and distressing time.
We support measures by the UK Government and the Scottish Government to support Ukraine, who have recently pledged a combined £44 million of humanitarian aid. This will go towards healthcare supplies - such as medicines, syringes, dressings and wound care packs – as well as water, sanitation and shelter.
We have sent personal messages of support to the small number of colleagues in Ukraine who are affiliated with our College. And as an expression of solidarity, we are asking members of the medical profession to give money if they can to The Red Cross Ukraine Crisis Appeal.
The College stands in solidarity with Ukraine. We sincerely hope for a swift end to the war through mediation and dialogue, and the avoidance of all bloodshed.
