Empowering medical excellence, shaping healthcare futures.
31 March 2025
The College is extremely concerned and disturbed to note the continuing acts of violence, in multiple parts of the world, against innocent civilians. The resurgence of violence in Gaza, continuing conflict in Ukraine, emerging confirmation of the extent of the humanitarian crisis in Sudan, and unresolved civil war in Myanmar, now additionally hit by a major earthquake, are all of equal and major concern.
We unite with others in the medical community to condemn all violence, in these and in other areas, and particularly the inhumane attacks on healthcare workers and medical infrastructure.
The College strongly supports the WHO’s call to all parties in the affected areas to protect health and ensure safe access to healthcare for their populations. We join the WHO and others in calling for peace, and we support the ceasefire calls from many NGOs. Unrestricted humanitarian access and a path to justice is a necessity for affected peoples.
The College is a multinational, multi-faith healthcare charity. Its Fellows and Members share the collective purpose of improving the standard of medical practice and the quality of patient care, wherever they may work.
On behalf of all our Fellows and Members, we express our abhorrence of violence in all forms, our compassion for all affected peoples and our support for the healthcare workers who are risking their lives caring for the sick and injured. We, therefore, call for the de-escalation of violence.
