Statement on international conflicts

15 January 2025

We have been deeply concerned to hear of continuing acts of violence against healthcare workers and facilities in locations including the Sudan, Gaza and Myanmar.

Our College is a multinational, multifaith healthcare charity, whose Fellows and Members share the collective purpose of improving the standard of medical practice and the quality of patient care, wherever they may work.

The inhumanity of the recent and ongoing acts of violence in multiple parts of the world, and the consequent and unfolding humanitarian crisis, are deeply disturbing to us all.

We express here, on behalf of all our Fellows and Members, our abhorrence of violence in all forms, our compassion for all affected peoples and our support for the medical communities that are risking their lives caring for the sick and injured. The College condemns assaults of any kind on healthcare professionals and hospitals.

Furthermore, the College supports the WHO’s call to all parties in the affected areas to protect health and ensure safe access to healthcare for their populations. We join the WHO and others in calling for peace.

Fellows and Members wishing to explore means of providing support may choose to consider donating to any of the following:

British Red Cross

Save the Children

The International Rescue Committee

Doctors Without Borders (MSF)
