Resident doctor survey launched

11 April 2025

The College is pleased to join with colleagues in London and Glasgow to produce a national survey of resident doctors, inviting them to share their experiences of working and training in the NHS. The new survey can be accessed here.

With questions designed by resident doctors for resident doctors, the survey explores the early-career doctor perspective on recruitment and application to training, supervision and feedback, the working environment, and the future of medicine as a career.

We are urging resident doctors to speak up, share their experiences and help shape the future of medicine. The survey runs from 9 April – 5 May 2025 and is open to all resident doctors working in a UK clinical setting.

Commenting on the survey, Professor Andrew Elder, President of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh said:

The College is pleased to have joined with colleagues in the Glasgow and London Colleges to produce this important survey. The survey only takes a few minutes to complete and looks at many aspects of the current training and work environment, with a different emphasis from other surveys that resident doctors, LEDs and others are asked to complete. Please have a look and add your views – they matter!

Dr Marilena Giannoudi, Co-Chair of the Trainees and Members Committee added:

As a resident doctor myself, I am very aware that this is challenging period for residents working in our NHS. It’s important, therefore, that resident doctors get to have their say on the future of medicine. To all resident doctors and those in non-training posts: we encourage you to complete this short survey. We are interested in your views on the current training and work environment. Have your say – your views can truly make a difference!
