There have been a number of new and exciting developments in the fields of both diabetes and endocrinology in the last few years.
The challenges in diabetes management are varied and we address these from a demographic, clinical and service provision perspective. Firstly, the changing diabetes population is discussed with a focus on managing care in both young and older patients. New drugs in diabetes management are ever expanding and we offer an update on the newer incretin based medications. Finally, we have a talk on the experience of changing healthcare delivery with a focus on individualising diabetes care which is a key challenge in the cash strapped NHS.
Within endocrinology, we offer updates on managing osteoporosis, thyroid disease in pregnancy and steroid induced hypoadrenalism. We also focus on women’s health with updates on managing hypogonadism in young women and hormone replacement in menopause.
In view of this rapidly changing landscape, the aim of this symposium is to update current knowledge of these developments and inform management of increasingly complex conditions.
Highlights of the symposium include:
• Managing diabetes in the young and older populations
• Challenges of individualising diabetes care
• The role of incretin hormones in diabetes and obesity
• New drugs in osteoporosis
• Thyroid disease in pregnancy
• Hormone replacement in young and menopausal women
The wide range of topics and excellent expert speakers will appeal to both general and specialist clinicians dealing with these conditions in primary and secondary care.
