The Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh (the “College”) has launched its ambitious new strategy, Towards 2025 Together, underpinned by its mission to promote and improve the quality of health and patient care worldwide.

The College is an independent charity which enables a worldwide community of physicians and their teams to advance the health of the global population and planet for the long-term benefit of society. It is a progressive organisation committed to being the voice of its Fellows and Members, setting professional standards, influencing health policy, and promoting equality and human rights.

Over the next five years, the College wants to promote and improve the quality of health and patient care worldwide, and be the College of choice for physicians and related specialties internationally. In order to do this, four strategic aims have been developed:

  • To be the voice of physicians, shaping and influencing healthcare policy around the world
  • To build an inclusive and collaborative global community that supports physicians across all stages of their careers, furthering the College’s network of Fellows and Members
  • To deliver lifelong learning for a sustainable health system using the College’s expertise, heritage and cutting-edge technology to benefit physicians and patients
  • To create a world-class infrastructure which underpins the College’s work

Commenting, Keith McKellar, CEO of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, said:

“The next five years will be absolutely vital for the College, as we approach new challenges and undergo change. It is important that we position ourselves to respond to those challenges, and take advantage of new opportunities. The College’s new five-year strategy will position us to do just that.

“The College has a rich history of influencing health policy and training and educating physicians throughout their careers. We want to maintain and expand this work, through our Strategy to 2025, to be the College of choice for physicians and related specialties internationally.

“We will be focusing on an exciting agenda including influencing global healthcare policy and recognising the importance of equality and human rights. We will continue to build and connect our global community, optimising their health and wellbeing and that of their patients. We will improve global access to lifelong training, education and assessment and build local capacity through local decision making and skilled leadership. All of this will be supported by a world-class infrastructure to create a culture of innovation, collaboration and engagement.

“The College will be the voice of - and support network for - physicians globally as they strive to maintain excellent patient care, and deliver patient-facing research to improve care outcomes.”
