Over the last 30 years the prevalence of hypertension has doubled worldwide with an estimated 1.28 billion people now estimated to be hypertensive.

It is therefore important that we not only understand how to diagnose hypertension effectively but also understand how to manage hypertension successfully taking into account patient factors such as age, healthcare access, and co-morbidities. With such high prevalence it is also important to look at how services can be delivered and response to treatment monitored .

Thank you to the Edinburgh High Blood Pressure Fund for their support in developing this online symposium, which will take us through current management including what blood pressure targets we should be aiming for, resistance hypertension, and the future of treating hypertension. Talks will include discussions on hypertensive urgency and emergency, an international perspective from Sri Lanka, ultra-long acting therapies, and tele-monitoring in primary care.  Sessions will focus on:

  • Hypertension diagnosis and management
  • Hypertension in... young adults, women during pregnancy, and the frail and elderly
  • Resistant and secondary hypertension
  • The future of hypertension
