Brittany Fergusson
I completed my undergraduate Physiotherapy degree at Curtin University, Western Australia, graduating in 2014. I initially commenced my degree with a goal of opening my own Sports Physiotherapy clinic, but instead found a passion in the diversity of acute care during my placements. Since graduating I have worked in a range of tertiary settings and specialty areas, from critical care through to rehabilitation.
After establishing myself as a Senior Physiotherapist several years ago I was drawn to the critical care setting for its complexity and fast evolving field that has kept me constantly stimulated. My desire to constantly learn and improve has been sparked by noticing the impact that I can have on a patient’s outcome and both their and their families intensive care experience.
My critical care experience includes leading the ICU Physiotherapy Team, participating in ICU research and providing ICU care within the unit and as part of a supportive outreach service, particularly during COVID-19. I thoroughly enjoy teaching and developing new staff and have developed or taught at numerous courses. I now work as a Senior ICU Physiotherapist at Fiona Stanley Hospital in Western Australia. Outside of work I enjoy remaining active, being outdoors in the sunshine and anything that involves the ocean.
This course is refreshingly relevant to my career. It will provide me with the knowledge and skills to effectively contribute and lead within the team, consolidating Physiotherapy as an essential component. I am extremely grateful to the Edinburgh college of Physicians for this scholarship and feel proud to be completing this course through such a prestigious university.
