Trainees and Members' Committee Profile

I am a specialist trainee in geriatric and general medicine in South East Scotland. I have previously represented trainees at local and regional trainee committees, as well as having been a Vice Chair for Representation on the TMC. I have previously organised Core Medical Trainee teaching, and currently organise Geriatric Medicine training days regionally. I am interested in promoting the quality of internal medicine training, near peer support aswell as supporting those planning maternity leave, return to work and LTFT training. 

I am currently a Medical Education Fellow in NHS Lothian, having completed Internal Medicine Training in the South East of Scotland in 2024.

Before moving to Edinburgh, I completed my undergraduate training in Vienna, which included clinical placements in Germany, Scotland, and Tanzania. This was followed by early postgraduate medical training near my hometown in rural Upper Austria, an MSc in Internal Medicine, the DTM&H and IDEWM, and a PGCert in Clinical Education. My primary clinical interest is infectious diseases, with a focus on acute care.

As a medical educator, I am passionate about developing meaningful professional relationships, promoting belonging and equity in clinical environments, and utilising medical simulation with a focus on debriefing.

Having benefited from the RCPE’s excellent learning resources throughout my training and seen the important advocacy work that the Trainees & Members’ committee does, I am excited to contribute to this important work.

I studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh and completed my foundation training in South East Scotland. During this time, it became clear that my passion and aptitude was for the medical specialities, and I was particularly inspired by my placements in Medicine of the Elderly (and the trainees/consultants I encountered). I did not take a direct path into speciality training, and hopped over to the other side of the world for “just an FY3 year” in New Zealand. Needless to say, the plethora of outdoor activities and work/life balance kept me there for a few more years, but the pull of Scotland plus friends and family brought me back home. I have enjoyed a team-based structure for my time in acute medicine, and am passionate about focusing on how we can form mentorship connections to help resident doctors develop clinical and non-technical skills in a supportive environment. I have also benefited from LTFT training, allowing me to pursue sporting goals, and wish to help facilitate others advance through a more flexible training programme structure.

As a member of the Trainees and Members’ Committee, I hope to ensure the voices of trainees are heard, particularly representing Scottish views and priorities in the wider UK training programmes. It will be a privilege to help develop and deliver education, and to help trainees develop and retain important role model and mentoring connections during their training. I have benefited from LTFT training during IMT, and wish to develop and support access to others who wish to pursue this.

I am a Respiratory Medicine ST6 at Ninewells Hospital, Dundee, in the East of Scotland. I studied medicine at the University of Dundee, as a student served on the National Committee of Students for Global Health (formerly Medsin-UK) and undertook an intercalated BSc in International Health at the University of Leeds. After the Foundation Programme, I completed the LSHTM's East African DTM&H, then worked as a Medical Officer in rural South Africa. Since returning to Scotland, I have been working as a Respiratory registrar in less-than-full-time training in order to spend time with my two sons, and from August 2023, will be undertaking a PhD in Multimorbidity, Physical Activity and Sleep in Malawi.

I completed my medical training in Lagos, Nigeria, in 2016, and am now based in London, set to become a Haematology Registrar in North West London from August 2025.

My interests include supporting strong peer-to-peer relationships as well as fostering strong mentorships as a tool to navigating a medical career effectively. I am eager to contribute to the great work being done by the education committee including the RCPE Podcast series.

Being on the T&MC means I get the opportunity to contribute to shaping medical training. It's an invaluable chance to collaborate, learn, and amplify trainee and member voices. I'll help identify challenges and advocate solutions ultimately improving the overall training experience.

I studied medicine at the University of Glasgow before completing my Foundation Training in Forth Valley, where I especially enjoyed my posts in General Medicine. I subsequently worked in Monklands Hospital and Edinburgh before starting Internal Medicine Training in the West of Scotland, where I am currently based.

My clinical interests include Infectious Diseases, and I am particularly passionate about promoting excellence in clinical practice and postgraduate training. I believe the Royal Colleges play a vital role in maintaining high standards through education, assessment, and trainee support – and I am eager to contribute to this work.

One area I feel strongly about is the promotion of protected self-directed learning time for IMTs. When highly capable, adaptable trainees are empowered and given the freedom and time to develop themselves, they not only grow as professionals but also bring innovations that improve patient care.

I would consider it a privilege to represent my fellow trainees, amplify their voice within the College, and contribute to ensuring that our training is of the highest quality and empowers us to become the consultants of the future.

I have attended many conferences through the College such as most recently Women in Leadership and the Medical Trainees Conference. I was also part of the organising committee for the Edinburgh International Course on Medicine of the Older Adult; my role was to be the trainee representative, organise a session and chair this, as well as helping on the days of the course and speaking to delegates. Outside of the College, I have been involved in organising multiple diets of PACES, been a LTFT representative at a local hospital forum level and am currently a GIM representative at a regional specialty trainee level. I have an interest in resident doctor development so have also assisted on Reg Ready SIM days, foundation year SIM training and organising and examining a regional Mock PACES. 

My involvement so far in the college has been invaluable and shown me that I am keen to pursue a career in resident doctor development and education. As a trainee I know how important good quality training is and I feel passionately about being involved in contributing to this. 

I am currently an Internal Medicine Trainee in the Northern Deanery having previously graduated from the University of Nottingham in 2018 and then worked in Sunderland, York and New Zealand before moving back up North. My clinical interests are in Medical Oncology, specifically palliative chemotherapy and I have recently completed my MSc in Oncology and Palliative Care. I will be commencing my ST3 post in Medical Oncology in August.

I am passionate about medical education, having had some great teachers help me in my career. This led to becoming a Teaching Fellow and obtaining my PGCert in Medical Education I hope to put my knowledge and skills to use in aiding future educational events. 

As this is my first year being on the T&MC, I am looking forward to being involved in many different aspects of the committee’s work. I would like to use my role to help improve training and wellbeing for doctors. Importantly I hope to ensure education, support and advice is easy to find and freely available to help healthcare professionals thrive in their careers and ultimately provide high-quality, up-to-date care for all patients. 

Being a doctor is challenging and the T&MC are here to help by improving education, career-planning and wellbeing. Previously, I have found resources created by the T&MC very useful and within my role I plan to develop these further to help doctors and ultimately patients receive the best care.

I graduated with an MBBS in Pakistan followed by training in Internal Medicine and becoming an Acute Medicine higher specialist trainee in the Northeast of England. This helps me understand both UK and international medical graduate perspectives. I’m actively involved in research, with papers published and presented at global conferences, and I’m passionate about helping trainees develop their own scholarly work. 

I’ve seen firsthand how point-of-care ultrasound transforms patient care. To that end, I’m currently completing FAMUS accreditation and working toward echocardiography certification as my specialist skill. I am interested in integrating ultrasound into future conferences organised by the committee as well as educational talks and podcasts. I want every trainee to have access to hands-on ultrasound training, research mentorship and the resources I’ve benefitted from.

With my clinical experience, academic endeavours and commitment to inclusive education, I’m well-placed to promote initiatives on the Trainees & Members Committee that expand skills, support international graduates and enrich training across the College.

Organising the annual Medical Trainees Conference and chairing evening updates has let me connect with experts, learn continuously and support my peers. Serving on the T&MC means fostering those opportunities by creating engaging events and resources that empower all trainees to grow clinically, academically and professionally.

Academic Clinical Fellow in Cardiology currently undertaking a Phd looking at diabetic heart disease using cardiac MRI and RNA sequencing. Upon completion will return to cardiology training in West Yorkshire

I have a passion for medical education. Having completed a Masters' in Health Professionals Education at Hull York Medical School, I have used this knowledge to contribute to the organisation of our annual Trainee's conference as well as various college educational events throughout the year. My drive to help trainees reach their career goals led me to develop the 'Career Conversations' podcast series, in which we discuss different career options, membership examinations and issues which trainees may need information on.

I feel incredibly lucky to be able to work within the Trainee and Members Committee to represent trainees across the UK in a large variety of meetings, whilst also working towards improving resources to help with career choices and training.

I am a current Internal Medicine Trainee in the South East of Scotland. I completed my medical degree between St Andrews and Manchester. I moved to Edinburgh for the specialised foundation programme, where I had the opportunity to undertake a dedicated research block and IMT training. I have undertaken a PgCert in medical education whilst undertaking full time training in IMT2. I have a keen interest in neurology, neurophysiology, medical education and research. In order to pursue further research interests and sporting competitions, I have made the decision to go LTFT in my last year of IMT training. I hope to represent and advocate for my medical colleagues to ensure our views are represented and to improve our training experience. 

I feel strongly that there should be further opportunities made available to incorporate research and medical education into our training, should this be an area of interest. Having attended multiple RCPE education events over the last few years, I am excited to contribute to the Trainees and Members' committee. 

NIHR Academic Clinical Fellow in Rheumatology

I am a clinical academic trainee (ACF specialising in Rheumatology) based in the North-East of England. I graduated from Newcastle University in 2021 and completed my academic foundation training at Newcastle Hospitals in 2023.

I have a keen interest in research and medical education and have been involved in mentoring and delivering undergraduate teaching for both Newcastle and Sunderland University students. I am an active trainee representative locally and for the Royal Society of Medicine’s Rheumatology and Rehabilitation Section Council, and plan to use my roles to promote and help deliver RCPE educational events.

I have extensive "practical" teaching experience, having taught undergraduates and post graduates a variety of medical topics over the years, alongside formal qualifications in Medical Education. I am passionate about education and I view it as a symbiotic process, not only do you pass on knowledge but you also improve your own. I would like to act in a mentoring role for the incoming FY1s and to help prepare the new cohort of doctors with what they need to succeed when starting work and I think I have wisdom to offer them! I have previous experience as an NHS Lothian Chief Registrar from 2022-2023 and the time spent in this role opened my eyes to the benefits of taking time to develop non clinical skills. I would like to learn more about medical politics, leadership and management. I am approachable and a team player and I would like to collaborate on topics like EMUs, conferences, podcasts as well as help plan for how the future could look.  

I feel incredibly lucky to have such an amazing resource as the College on my doorstep. Not only is it steeped in history but it is a force for good within the medical world. I am very honoured to take part in it.

Registrar in Infectious Diseases and General Internal Medicine

I graduated from Queen's University Belfast in 2020 and am currently an Infectious Diseases and General Internal Medicine Registrar in Northern Ireland, having completed Internal Medical Training in the West of Scotland. I am passionate about treating complex infections, particularly in patients with multimorbidity and polypharmacy. I recently accepted an Academic Clinical Fellowship post which I will commence in August 2026, to focus on treatments for non-tuberculosis Mycobacteria. I enjoy medical education and have been involved in mentoring medical students and facilitating undergraduate teaching. I look forward to the other educational opportunities T&MC will bring.

Outside of work I also have been an editor for the last two volumes of "Tools of the Trade: Poems for New Doctors" published by the Scottish Poetry Library. I am passionate about literature of all kinds including Medical Humanities and am excited to see how I can develop this while in the T&MC.

The Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh is a College of which I am proud to be a member. I encourage colleagues to join because of the sense of community which I hope to continue to foster during my time on T&MC.

I am passionate about medical education. The Trainees & Members Committee provides an excellent opportunity to shape educational experiences, and I hope to use my experience of developing educational initiatives at a local and national level to contribute meaningfully to the Council's education work.

In my role as an RCP Associate College Tutor Coordinator (2025–26), I have led the design and delivery of the IMT1/2 and IMT3 teaching programmes, using trainee feedback to drive continuous improvement. I introduced a dedicated IMT Wellbeing Day, designed and delivered a palliative care simulation course, and developed PACES teaching that has helped multiple trainees achieve success in the examination. These experiences have reinforced the importance of listening to trainees, identifying gaps in provision, and implementing practical, high-quality educational solutions.

Previously, as the British Geriatrics Society Events and Education Representative, I developed a trainee conference roadmap to improve awareness of educational opportunities and support trainees in making the most of national meetings.

As a member of the Trainees & Members Council, I will bring enthusiasm, initiative, and a collaborative approach, working to ensure that the College continues to deliver high-quality education that equips trainees to succeed while reflecting evolving needs and priorities.

After graduating from Hull York Medical School in 2019, having also completed an intercalated BSc in Immunology at the University of Edinburgh, I undertook an Academic Foundation Programme post in Diabetes and Endocrinology research at Aintree University Hospital. I have continued my clinical training in the Mersey region and am currently an IMT3 doctor at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital. I hope to pursue specialty training in Diabetes and Endocrinology, with ongoing interests in academic research and medical education.

Throughout my Academic Foundation and Internal Medicine Training I have been actively involved in quality improvement initiatives and undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. I have also developed leadership and representation experience through my previous role as Doctors' Mess President at Aintree University Hospital, where I worked collaboratively with colleagues and hospital teams to improve rest and study facilities available for resident doctors and support trainee wellbeing.

I welcome the opportunity to contribute these experiences to the work of the RCPE, whilst continuing to develop my leadership skills and supporting improvements in postgraduate medical education, training pathways and the working lives of resident doctors across the UK.

As a member of the TMC I hope to tangibly improve the experience of resident doctors, particularly in advocating for LTFT trainees and doctors returning from out-of-programme experiences or parental leave; having taken two periods of maternity leave and trained LTFT, I understand the challenges involved first-hand.

I am an acute medicine trainee currently based in South East Scotland. Having graduated from Dundee University in 2018, I moved to Edinburgh to try life in the big city; here it was through the pandemic and the chaos of COVID that I fell in love with acute medicine. I enjoy the variety, the need for lateral thinking, and the fast paced life.

I have purposely chosen palliative care as my subspecialist interest to contrast this. This specialty has allowed me to understand the importance of perspective and the bigger picture, and I have gained invaluable insight through hospital and hospice placements. In addition, palliative care pairs perfectly with front door medicine, given the range of patients and complex symptoms we face on a day to day basis. 

I have a particular interest in medical education and have been teaching on Internal Medicine MSc run by the RCPE and Edinburgh University for the past few years. I also enjoy teaching undergraduates and post graduates regularly. 

After graduating from Edinburgh University in 2018, I completed my foundation training in the South East of Scotland. I then had 2 clinical fellow years where I enjoyed working in Acute Medicine and Gastroenterology and I am currently a Specialty Doctor in Gastroenterology, having completed Internal Medicine Training in the South East of Scotland in 2025, looking forward to pursuing HST in Gastroenterology.

Having had time out post foundation training and now after IMT I feel strongly that trainees should be encouraged to take the right path for them in Medicine, including time out or LTFT working, enjoying time in and outside of work and having time to pursue other goals and hobbies. I look forward to representing trainees and advocating for this.

As part of my current role I also deliver teaching to post graduate students studying Medicine. I really enjoy teaching, previously organising teaching programmes for medical students and PACES teaching for medical trainees. I especially enjoy non-clinical teaching such as communication and prioritisation. It would be a privilege to be able to help organise and provide educational opportunities and I look forward to the challenge that being on the T&MC would bring.

Having benefited from the educational opportunities that the College has provided I would love to be involved in supporting the continuing provision of educational and training opportunities for trainees. I also am excited at prospect of being a part of the T&MC and representing the opinions and outlook of trainees.

Following Foundation training in NHS Lothian, I spent three years working in New Zealand, where I undertook physician training through the Royal Australasian College of Physicians. Experiencing a different healthcare and training system gave me a broader perspective on postgraduate training and encouraged me to reflect critically on how trainees can be better supported within the UK system. This experience stands me in good stead representing and advocating for trainees within the College and externally.

I intend to pursue dual training in palliative and acute medicine. I am passionate about building resources to support all doctors in providing high-quality palliative care across clinical settings. Alongside my previous educational work with the T&MC, I have established and delivered palliative medicine teaching programmes for New Zealand resident doctors and I have organised conferences for the UK Association for Palliative Medicine. These experiences have developed my skills in identifying learning needs, coordinating educational activities and working collaboratively with colleagues. Alongside my practical teaching experience, I have completed a PGCert in Clinical Education. I would bring this combination of educational theory, programme development and practical experience to the T&MC, helping to create accessible and engaging learning opportunities for trainees.

Serving on the T&MC means contributing directly to the College community that supports my own development as a doctor. It gives me the opportunity to collaborate with others, develop accessible educational resources, and ensure trainees’ experiences and priorities are represented within the College and beyond.

Researcher, Scholar, and Leader [Plexus MD, Member of IMT forum], I have a strong foundation in Acute Medicine and a deep passion for Oncology. I manage Acute Oncology wards, attend Clinical Oncology Clinics, and am actively involved in various NICE-led Quality Improvement Programs, Multi-disciplinary meetings and research. My career has been built on a commitment to improving patient care and contributing to the broader medical community. I have recently completed the National Audit (SAMBA) for my Trust run by the Society of Acute Medicine and help the University In organising Mock OSCE for Medical Students.

Previously, I have contributed to establishing a Hospital-Based Tumour Registry and won many international awards for rare clinical cases presentations. These experiences have helped me develop a robust understanding of clinical decision-making, data management, and patient-centred care. I am active member in the regional Deanery Leaders and Educators Meeting driven to improve trainee experience.

Through these experiences, I have gained both clinical expertise and the leadership skills needed to navigate complex medical situations and collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams. I believe my background in Oncology, Quality Improvement, and medical ethics equips me with the insight and drive to contribute meaningfully to the College’s work.

Being part of the College means the opportunity to advocate, to learn from my fellow colleagues, to grow together, to act as a baton bearer and to learn how to be a leader. It is an opportunity to make a positive impact and a difference for the betterment of Medicine and Healthcare.

I am an Internal Medical Trainee in the East of Scotland. I graduated from the University of Edinburgh in 2018 and since then have worked across Scotland and as a medical registrar in a rural district general hospital in New Zealand. 

I am passionate about general medicine, especially in smaller hospital settings, and I’m interested in the challenges and opportunities that trainees face in Internal Medical Training. 

I have been actively involved in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, as well as in clinical governance and resident doctor leadership.

I would love to play an active role in the college as a member of the TMC, with the opportunity to represent trainees in a wide range of settings.

As an IMT trainee, I have benefited greatly from the educational resources and events organised by the TMC and I would like to be involved in supporting the ongoing work that the TMC do in this area.

I am an Internal Medicine Trainee based in South East Scotland. I trained in Bristol but have also worked in London and Melbourne, Australia. Medical training has been a rewarding experience and given me lots of opportunities. I want to make sure trainees can continue to make the most of these with the right support and resources for the challenges along the way. I have an interest in medical education and mentorship. I have been involved in co-ordination of undergraduate teaching with the University of Edinburgh and support of the new International Medical Graduates in the UK via the RCPE.

I am an NIHR Academic Clinical Fellow (IMT3) in renal medicine, with experience across general medicine and nephrology, and an interest in education, QI and research. I previously worked as a Senior Clinical Teaching Fellow, leading a team of 15 doctors to deliver medical education across acute and outpatient settings. I currently chair the Hull RMO forum for medical registrars and lead a trust-wide project to improve working conditions and team culture for medical on-call team. 

Nationally, I have delivered conference presentations on anaemia management and patient-centred research in dialysis, and I am involved in guideline development. I am passionate about creating supportive, well-structured training pathways, especially for those pursuing parallel academic, leadership or education roles. I hope to bring insight, energy and a commitment to pragmatic change to the T&MC, while learning from others across the UK.

It offers a meaningful platform to represent and advocate for trainees, influence national training and workforce policy, and contribute to shaping a more inclusive, flexible, and supportive environment for doctors in training – ensuring their voices are heard at every level within the College and across the wider profession.
