Bury in Lancashire, England has, with the death of Dr. Haider, lost a much-loved and highly respected paediatrician who worked there as consultant from 1974 until his retirement in 1997.

A graduate of the Punjab, he worked as senior registrar at Booth Hall Hospital 1972-74. He will long be remembered as having set up the SPD Trust in 1995 to give awards to children and young people for their work in health education and citizenship. Many people may be unaware that he made substantial financial investment to set up the trust.

His wife, Dr Rose-Haider, a paediatrician at Fairfields General Hospital, survives him. On his death tributes poured in from civic leaders of Bury extolling his gifts, his dedication to the life and health of young people and the work of the SPD Trust. In accordance with Islamic rites his funeral took place the day after his death.
