I grew up in a small village in Ayrshire before moving to Glasgow for university – graduating in 2017 with MBChB and an intercalated BSc in Cardiovascular Studies. Undergraduate modules in anaesthesia/intensive care medicine first sparked an interest in this area. I then completed my foundation training in Edinburgh where I gained some critical care experience at the Royal Infirmary. Moving back to Glasgow I took a year in a clinical fellow role with time spent in A&E and then ICU during the initial surge of the COVID-19 pandemic. I have recently started Anaesthetics training in the West of Scotland.
The first year of the Critical Care MSc has expanded my interests into the specialty; covering topics from core clinical practice to clinical trials and human factors. I feel that the knowledge gained so far is becoming increasingly relevant to my daily practice. I am thankful to the RCPE for the scholarship and look forward to continuing learning with the course.
