A number of healthcare professionals in Glasgow have been awarded the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh’s William Cullen Prize.
Dr Graham Naismith and Mr Allan Boal accepted the innovation prize on behalf of the Clyde Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Team; and Dr Wai Imrie and Dr Stephen Byers collected the teaching prize on behalf of the General Psychiatric Team from Leverndale Hospital.
The prizes were awarded at NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde’s Celebrating Success Event on 6 November 2017.
Dr Jennifer Armstrong, Medical Director, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde said:
“The work by the Clyde IBD team has helped patients take ownership over the management of this chronic disease. Their work has been shared nationally and their approaches adopted widely in other areas of the Health Service.
“A recent GMC National Training Survey gave the team from Leverndale the most green flags for a training department. This recognises well established rotation, a group on consultants with a strong interest in training and support from medical managers”.
Prof. Andrew Collier, College Membership Secretary, who presented the recipients with a copy of one of Dr Cullen’s letters said:
“The Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh has Members and Fellows all over the world, but this prize particularly recognises excellence at a local level.
“We are pleased to recognise the contributions that these teams have made both in training the healthcare workforce, and in supporting and treating patients”.
