The Clinical Educators team at the Golden Jubilee National Hospital has been awarded the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh William Cullen Prize.

The Team was presented with the prize, which recognises excellence in teaching, following the Golden Jubilee Foundation public Annual Review on Monday 23 October 2017, by the Scottish Government Cabinet Secretary for Health, Shona Robison; and College Vice President Dr Tom Mackay.

The team works across specialties including cardiology and orthopaedics, and across the hospital from theatre and critical care to the outpatient department.

Anne Marie Cavanagh, Nurse Director, Golden Jubilee Foundation said:

“This team has key roles in supporting staff at every step of their careers within the Golden Jubilee and has worked cohesively for a number of years.  Whilst they have specialist knowledge and skills in their own speciality and are firmly rooted in their clinical areas; they support each other as a team for wider clinical education work and work together on several projects and teaching days.

“They implement our goals and objectives and ensure that all nursing staff are equipped with the skills and knowledge required for safe and compassionate person centred care”.

Dr Tom Mackay, College Vice-President, who presented the team with a copy of one of Dr Cullen’s letters said:

“The Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh has Members and Fellows all over the world, but this prize particularly recognises excellence at a local level.

“The clinical educators at the Golden Jubilee Hospital make sure that staff are competent and confident in delivering specialised care, and in ensuring the safe implementation and use of new medical equipment”.
