Prior to studying medicine at the University of Aberdeen, I lived in a small town called Strathaven, approximately 30 miles south of Glasgow. I graduated in 2013 and have since worked in a number of places.
My foundation years were spent in Inverclyde Royal Hospital in Greenock and the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley. This was followed by a year working as an SHO in Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary. It was during this time that I developed an interest in gastroenterology. I was lucky enough to spend 4 months working closely with the gastroenterologists, where I was able to attend many clinics and endoscopy lists.
I subsequently started core medical training at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow, where again I was lucky enough to work within the speciality of gastroenterology for 4 months. During this year I attained my MRCP(UK). I have been involved in a number of projects within the field of gastroenterology and was awarded the Derek Gillen Prize for best poster presentation at the Scottish Society of Gastroenterology Summer Meeting in 2017.
I am delighted and privileged to have been awarded both the opportunity to study the MSc in Internal Medicine through the University of Edinburgh, as well as attaining this scholarship from the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh. I am thrilled to be allowed the opportunity to work so closely with two world renowned institutions over the next 3 years, and hopefully many more. Completing this MSc in Internal Medicine will allow me to expand knowledge acquired during my studies for MRCP as well as laying the foundations for a career in gastroenterology.
