The Faculty of Pharmaceutical Medicine of the Royal Colleges of the United Kingdom is currently developing a ‘Code of Good Medical Practice in Pharmaceutical Medicine’. This document is based on the General Medical Council (UK) document, Good Medical Practice. It is intended to provide doctors practising pharmaceutical medicine both in the United Kingdom and around the world with specific guidance on expected standards, conduct and behaviour. Also many clinically-based doctors participate in the practice of pharmaceutical medicine and need to be better informed about the speciality.
We would like to hear the views of pharmaceutical physicians, fellow healthcare professionals, pharmaceutical companies, stakeholder organisations and members of the public on what is good about the current draft and where additions or edits could be made.
The draft version of Code of Good Medical Practice in Pharmaceutical Medicine is available for review and comments.
Copies of all these documents can also be downloaded from: https://www.fpm.org.uk/policypublications/code_practice
The Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh is a parent College of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Medicine. The College very much welcomes this document and believes it provides helpful guidance for physicians practicing in pharmaceutical medicine, reinforcing the ethical and professional standards expected by the regulator and the wider profession.
The College particularly notes the reference to registering all clinical trials in the public domain and publishing results as soon as possible once the trial is complete.
