The ISD Scotland figures show huge disparity in spending across the country with regards to cleaning hospitals.

Professor Derek Bell, President of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, said:

“This is a complex issue which cannot be measured in a useful way by only by referring to ‘spending per square metre’. The nature of national and local cleaning contracts should be taken into account as well as other indicators, such as the number of complaints received about cleanliness at hospitals. Spending alone does not measure the effectiveness of the cleaning carried out.”
