Scottish Parliament Health and Sport Committee call for evidence on preventative spend as a means of scrutinising expenditure on health.
The Committee is looking for views on areas of preventative spending for the Committee to investigate, how health boards and integrative authorities overcome the (financial and political) pressures that lead to reactive spending; identifying and tracking preventative spend; and speeding up/incentivising the shift of spending.
The College response refers to the importance of the Realistic Medicine agenda, primary prevention, physical activity and preventing alcohol related harm as key areas of preventative spending. It also emphasises the importance of children and young people and involving service users and patients in this agenda.
