The Scottish Parliament Environment, Climate Change and Land Reform Committee is undertaking an inquiry on air quality in Scotland and the Government's strategy to tackle air pollution.
The College response notes that generally air quality in Scotland is good and is concerned that media reports and other communications on the risks of air pollution could have the unintended consequence of decreasing outdoor physical activity.
Current Government air pollution policies and strategies should address not only outdoor air quality, but also the public health challenges of physical inactivity and obesity. There could be more focus on incentivising active travel as this will create many health benefits in addition to improving air quality.
