Vacancy: RCPE Intern: Education and Examinations

Salary: £11.44 per hour

Location: Edinburgh/Hybrid                                                                                                                

Fixed term contract, 35 hours per week, up to 10 weeks over summer 2024

We are seeking to appoint a motivated and digitally capable intern within the Education Team, who will also support our Examinations Team (with scope to spend time working with other teams). This internship would suit a high-achieving school leaver or college/university student interested in education and assessment, with strong digital/IT skills.

We represent over 14,000 Fellows and Members worldwide by improving their skills and knowledge, setting standards and developing policy and guidance. The College helps qualified doctors to pursue their careers in specialist (internal) medicine through our world-renowned education and training programme. We ensure that the views and practical clinical experiences of our membership are taken into account by health policymakers throughout the UK and communicated to the media and the public. We provide resources and information to support and facilitate professional development for physicians throughout their careers.

The Role

The role will be based with the Education, Training and Assessment Department but there may be an opportunity to spend time with different teams across the College. The main area of focus will be contributing to digital education including podcast editing but there will also be a chance to find out more about the administrative and delivery side of our Education programme. Time will also be spent with the Examinations Team.

This role will be predominantly based in the College but with occasional remote/home working supported where possible. Candidates therefore need to be able to travel to Edinburgh regularly.

Who we are looking for:

The successful candidate will satisfy the following requirements:

  • Be a self-starter with a proactive approach.
  • Possess strong IT/digital skills including Microsoft Office/365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Keen to learn (or have experience with) additional digital skills such as podcast editing.
  • Possess well-developed attention to detail skills.
  • Be a good team player.
  • Be able to work independently, managing own workload and meeting deadlines.
  • Have effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Be enthusiastic to learn about Education and Examinations provision and administration.
  • Commitment to documenting their internship experience online and contribute to improving the programme for future interns by providing feedback.
