Alexander MacLeod was a church minister in Rogart.
Rogart (also known as Roaird) was a parish in the historic County of Sutherland. The parish kept many sheep and cattle, and was used for varied fishery. In 1831, the population was 1805. Many inhabitants were employed as day-labourers and work on road-building.

1. How many Medical Men practice within the Parish of Rogart?
There is no Resident Medical Gentleman in this parish Dr. Ross is the Parochial Surgeon he Resides at Golspie, 10 miles distant from this Parish
2. The Names and Addresses of these.
Dr Ross Residing at Golspie
3. Has the number increased or diminished of late years?
I am not aware that there was a Medical Gentleman stationed in this parish although there is much need of one.
4. Have any left the Parish since you became connected with it? If so, for what reasons?
Dr Ross left the immediate vicinity of this Parish last year. The death of Dr Grant Brora was I think the Reason of Dr. Ross’s Removal to Golspie
5. Is there any complaint among the people of inadequacy in the supply of Medical aid?
Whatever be the cause, there are complaints among the people of the inadequacy in the supply of medical aid, especially as they are not in circumstances to pay the expenses of medical aid from a distance.
6. Do you know of any cases of protracted suffering, or of injury by Accident, such as might have been alleviated had proper advice been at hand?
There there is no doubt of various cases having taken place in this parish which if proper advice had been at hand might tend much to alleviate the condition of the sufferers.
7. To what extent is the deficiency of qualified Practitioners made up by the efforts of other parties?
The deficiency of qualified Practioners is not adequately made up in this Parish.
8. Does your experience enable you to suggest any measure – of general applicability – such as would be likely to relieve to some extent the evils (if they exist) of deficiency in the supply of Medical aid?
My knowledge of the Parish would suggest that a Medical Gentleman Residing in this Parish would be a great boon. This would to a certain extent Remove evils & complaints as he would be always in attendance.
9. What Heritors1 are resident, either generally or occasionally, in your Parish?
The Duke of Sutherland is the only Heritor and this Parish is not Residing in this Parish
