Donald Campbell was a church minister to Kilfinichen parish.
Kilfinichen and Kilvickeon (also known as Kilviceuen) was a parish on the Isle of Mull in the historic County of Argyle. It contained villages and inhabited islands. A means of transport and communication was a steamer from Oban. In 1841, the population was 4102. The main types of work in the parish was crofters, agricultural labourers, cottars and fishermen.

QUERIES
1. How many Medical Men practice within the Parish of Kilfinichen?
At present two of them of them1 as Medical officer by the Parochial Poor Board & another employed as their Inspector & Collector
2. The Names and Addresses of these.

3. Has the number increased or diminished of late years?
of late years the number has rather increased, two being employed as above stated-
4. Have any left the Parish since you became connected with it? If so, for what reasons?
Within the last thirty years, all the medical men of which there have been many (except the two that now are) left of being unable to obtain a livelihood
5. Is there any complaint among the people of inadequacy in the supply of Medical aid?
At present there is no complaint
6. Do you know of any cases of protracted suffering, or of injury by Accident, such as might have been alleviated had proper advice been at hand?
I do not recollect any particular case of accident, but I do know of cases, where owing to the very great distance, medical aid could not be obtained without great of time
7. To what extent is the deficiency of qualified Practitioners made up by the efforts of other parties?
The Dutchess of Argyll has educated a woman who has got a Diploma in Edin who attends on poor women gratis & others when asked. The Revd White [1 word illegible] Iona who studied medicine does much good in his Parish.
8. Does your experience enable you to suggest any measure – of general applicability – such as would be likely to relieve to some extent the evils (if they exist) of deficiency in the supply of Medical aid?
From the resources of the Parish, I do not see that anything more can be done.
9. What Heritors2 are resident, either generally or occasionally, in your Parish?
The following are the Heritors of this Parish, His Grace the Duke of Argyll, Archd James Campbell of Kilpatrick, Oban.- John Auldjo of Penyghael Noel house London. Alexr Maclean of Pennycross, Aros Mull. Donald Maclean of Renloch. W.J.Edn Dujald Mc Lachlan of Kilemone Aros Mull. Alexr W Arthur of Ardmeanach Writen Inveranay, and3 Lieut Coll Robert W Donald of Luchkeneth Aros Mull
Of these only three are resident Mr Maclean of Pennycross, Mr McLachlan of Killiemore & Coll McDonald of Luchkeneth. The rest come occasionally once or twice a year. but in general remain only a few days

2. A heritor was a landowner, under Scots Law, whose holdings were sizeable enough for them to be liable for the payment of public burdens such as Poor Law rates, road and bridge assessments and the church minister’s stipend.
