James Cameron Gould

Biography

James Gould was a clinician, bacteriologist and scientist who graduated from Edinburgh University in 1944 with a BSc in pure science. Gould took up a clinical post in 1948 with Sir Stanley Davidson and was later a lecturer in the University Clinical Bacteriology department. His methods of antibiotic susceptibility testing for the diagnostic laboratory are still in use today, and he was the first to demonstrate antibiotic contamination of the ward environment. He was Treasurer of the College and elected a fellow in 1966.
