Painted People: An Untold History of Tattooing
In this illustrated talk, Dr Matt Lodder presents an overview of his new book ‘Painted People’, and argues that through the history of tattooing, we can glean unique insights into forgotten areas of human history.
The talk covers examples of tattooing from 5,000 years ago to the present day, and, in a unique RCPE twist, also discusses the amazing story of a young boy who was tattooed by his older brother in New York the 1870s, and whose remarkable skin is now in the collection of the University of Edinburgh.
