Biography

Dr Robert Kilpatrick was born to a Fife miner in 1929 and rose to be the Dean of Sheffield and Leicester Universities, a Life Peer, and President of both the General Medical Council (GMC) and British Medical Association. After winning a scholarship to study medicine at the University of Edinburgh, Kilpatrick influenced the next generation of doctors as a well-respected General Physician and teacher. While President of the GMC, he was instrumental in passing new conduct and performance procedures through parliament, ensuring a constant high standard of care in physicians.
