John Nimmo

Biography

Dr John Nimmo worked in the Edinburgh Eastern and Western General hospitals and served as Registrar of the College from 1987 to 1994, heavily involved in the Membership exams. While training at the Edinburgh Medical School he completed an honours year in physiology, studying renal disease. It was during his time at the Renal Unit in 1969 that there was a large outbreak of hepatitis, resulting in 12 members of staff infected and 4 medical professionals dead. After the closure of the Eastern General, Nimmo started working in general medicine and gastroenterology at the Western General, where he stayed until his retirement.
