Hugh MacLeod
Biography
Born in Dornoch in 1925 and educated at the University of Edinburgh Medical School from 1942 to 1948, MacLeod briefly attended his National Service before being diagnosed with tuberculosis. After his recovery, MacLeod treated patients with tuberculosis until the disease was mostly eradicated from Edinburgh in the 1960s, at which time he specialised in Geriatric Medicine. After becoming a Fellow of RCPE in 1968, MacLeod acted as Registrar until 1981, overseeing the Membership exam. One of his greatest achievements as Registrar was the development of the standardised exam between the London, Glasgow and Edinburgh Colleges (MRCP(UK) 1969).
