The Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh owns a six volume collection of 652 prints compiled by the College in the nineteenth century. The collection is primarily comprised of engraved portraits of medical practitioners.


This online exhibition contains a selection of thirty portraits accompanied by a brief description, which focuses on the artistic representation of medical professionals and the medical profession.

The engravings were selected and the text written by Charlotte Brown, as part of History MSc which she undertook at the University of Edinburgh which focused on eighteenth-century material and visual culture.
