Biography

John Matthews was a consultant physician at the Royal Infirmary Edinburgh from 1956 until 1986. He graduated from Edinburgh University in 1945 and served in the Royal Army Medical Corps as a Medical Officer. He worked on the staff of Professor Sir Derrick Dunlop and later managed the Medical Outpatient department. Matthews was elected Fellow of the College in 1958, was a member of Council from 1983 to 1985, and Vice President from 1985 to 1987.
