The Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh and our sister colleges jointly undertake this annual survey to gather robust data on the state of the consultant and higher specialty trainee (HST) physician workforce in the UK.

The census provides the Colleges with essential data, which is used to lobby for changes such as additional consultant posts and medical student places.

Our Census of consultant physicians and higher specialty trainees 2018 collected a range of data which we have used to illustrate the issues that physicians face.

How to complete the census

All UK consultants and HSTs should receive a personalised email from the three Royal Colleges of Physicians which will allow you to access your personalised form.

The census will close on Wednesday 11 December, so that the data can analysed and results produced closer to collection than ever before. As in previous years, on completing your census form you will be able to compare your data with the overall results.

To thank you for your time all respondents who complete the census will be entered in a draw for a number of Apple iPads.
